Queen Takes Book

I had the pleasure of visiting and working with local bookstore, Queen Takes Book, independently owned by Katie McNally. The project included artwork and illustrations that would be printed on t-shirts and natural canvas tote bags to display as merchandise in the bookstore.

The name itself, Queen Takes Book, is the first delightful greeting into a contemporary space filled with vintage charm and nods to checkered patterns and rich collegiate colors. Using these elements as inspiration, we started with early sketches and ideas to explore playful moments that could lean into this mood.

For the t-shirts, we landed on a double-sided print job with the logo printed small on the front and artwork printed large on the back side. This was the favorited concept featuring a stack of books with a chess board and the queen cleverly tucked into the design.

We also explore designs that complemented the look and feel of a natural canvas tote bag.

This concept is one of my favorites from this set, which explores the Queen’s unique and distinct movement across the chess board and her ability to confidently take and choose books over all else.
